Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, will certainly not be the same if Marine Drive, Juhu Beach and Chowpatty Beach are taken away from the city. The food counters and stalls, delicious snacks and long walks on the beaches are heartthrobs of this City of Dreams. A morning walk in the Juhu Beach will give you an opportunity to have a glimpse of famous Bollywood celebrities, while Chowpatty Beach at the northern end of Marine Drive, comes alive in the evenings and looks much like a carnival. Marine Drive is shaped like an inverted 'C' road and looks like a 'Queen's Necklace' from an elevated point when streetlights are lit in night.

Besides these three famous highlights at Mumbai that you must not miss, there are other beaches that are more secluded and less crowded but offers some delightful views such as Versova Beach, Madh Island, Marve Beach, Manori Beach and Gorai Beach. Yet, due to high-rise in the population of the city, Versova Beach has been constantly evolving into a Juhu Beach-like scenario. One is instructed to be careful and keep away from the dangerous areas at Madh Island and Marve beaches by the signboards. One can also enjoy ferry rides to the fishing villages of Gorai and Manori, as a cozy excursion idea from Mumbai.

Girgaun Chowpatty Beach is situated at the northern end of Marine Drive. This sandy beach is a popular picnic spot for the locals, especially on weekends and holidays. It is very famous among the tourists too for its spicy snacks such as Bhelpuri, fresh green tender coconuts, Chaat and its innumerable food stalls. One can see couples and children enjoying at the beach and is popular among all classes. It attracts a large number of devotees during Ganesh Chaturthi festival, when huge idols of Lord Ganesha are immersed here.

Snake charmers at Chowpaty are a sight for tourists while children love the rides of merry-go-rounds and ferry wheels. Chaupati Beach has expanded itself to touch Malabar Hill, Girgaum, Gamdevi and Khetwadi and in the evening, it turns into a carnival that is a permanent feature of Mumbai. Along with pony rides, performances of contortionists, you will also find astrologers here along with eunuchs and drug peddlers. Recently, a new park has been created along Chowpatty Beach for the elderly, where they can walk, sit or laze around. It has been known as popular venue for political meetings during freedom struggle in pre-independence era. One can also see a small colony along the beach of Koli fishermen.
